GAAHLS WYRD “VARDØGER EUROPEAN TOUR 2017”
Having stunned audiences during their all-too-brief festival appearances over the last two years, the critically acclaimed Gaahls WYRD now finally undertaking their first headlining tour. Presented by Doomstar Booking and Revelations Music, the “Vardøger European Tour 2017” sees the band bringing their hypnotic and mesmerising black metal to no less than 15 cities in the continent this December, moving through Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Poland, before culminating with an appearance at the legendary Eindhoven Metal Meeting festival.
Despite essentially being a new band, Gaahls WYRD represent the culmination of no less than two decades of blood, sweat and dedication by the charismatic founding member from which it takes its name. Thanks to his work in numerous outfits, from Gorgoroth to Wardruna, Gaahl has become among black metal’s most recognised protagonists, and his unearthly voice has earned him a place as well as one of its most celebrated vocalists.
The set lists for this tour will see material drawn from Gaahl’s contributions to the aforementioned Gorgoroth, as well as God Seed and Trelldom, the cult project he formed back in the early 90s. Notably Gaahls WYRD also features the unmistakeable guitars of the talented musician known as ‘Sir’, who has been playing alongside Gaahl for some 20 years, appearing in both Trelldom and God Seed. The stellar line- up is completed by members and ex-members of God Seed, Borknagar, Sahg and more, and as anyone who has been lucky enough to witness the band first-hand will attest, the group’s chemistry is second to none. The result is organic performances that are both immersive and all-encompassing as they are invigorating, a sonic ritual as much as a show.
Most importantly the band will be playing new compositions on the tour and it can also be revealed that a live EP will be released to celebrate this run of dates – more details on that to be announced soon...
As if all that was not enough reason to attend, the Norwegians have selected two of the most exciting bands in the underground right now to accompany them on their journey. France’s unforgettable The Great Old Ones offer a nightmarish yet epic journey into Lovecraftian post/ambient black metal landscapes. Auðn meanwhile demonstrate exactly why Iceland has become so associated with expertly crafted and distinctive black metal. An electrifying and diverse triarchy of dark musical entities indeed!
